Nampa Life
As Autumn arrives, spending our days outside becomes all the more enjoyable.
A typical late September Saturday here provides many opportunities to shop, dine and socialize outdoors, a light crispness starting to creep into the evening air.
Today, I wanted to highlight three unique experiences available to those of us living in or near Nampa:
1) Downs Auction: for those who enjoy a lively auction experience, you'll love the way the Downs crew handles local estates. Find impressive deals on everything from vintage jewelry and books to hand tools and more.

As I strolled through the auction site today (had to wear a mask to walk through the house; kind of wish they provided hazmat suits too), I wondered who would buy the property which was a "burn down" in my book.
Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the tables in the backyard which were laden with fine crystal, train model sets and dozens of books from the 1800s including several family bibles from the early 19th century which no doubt made their way to Nampa via the Oregon Trail nearly two hundred years ago.

Upcoming auctions: Downs Auction link
2) Hike the Kingfisher Trail:
this local gem is still a little rough for biking (goat heads galore), but if you park at the far western end (parking lot is located at the end of Greenhurst Road in Nampa) you'll enjoy spectacular views of Lake Lowell as you walk along the wide dirt path that leads you through sunny and shady spots along the lake shore.
3) Sawtooth Winery: while tastings ($5) are offered everyday from 11-5, this Sunnyslope winery pampers its wine club members with fun evening events throughout the year.
Their back patio offers sweeping views of the Snake River Valley.
On this particular September Saturday night, Scott and I were invited to come (as club members) for a special evening of live music, harvest tasting and cheese platter (and could bring two guests with us). While chatting with other club members, we sat by the fire pit and watched the sky burn out over the misty valley.
I found Sawtooth's white wines to really shine this year, favoring the Viognier in particular.

Because the area surrounding the lake is a wildlife habitat, you're sure to see plenty of wildlife and birds.
